How:
Step 1: Register on Scienteer. See your campus science fair coordinator for details.
Step 2: Registration on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 4 PM - 7 PM.
Sign-in at the front registration tables to receive your entry sticker/entry number.
Bring your science fair board and ABSTRACT to be set up in the competition area.
Step 3: Competition day
Students should be in Burges High School gymnasium, standing by their presentation boards 15 minutes before judging times.
Students will be judged by two different judges. Students may leave as soon as they are judged twice, but must leave their boards and reports.
Awards will be posted on presentation boards by 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018.

GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL PROJECTS
ITEMS NOT PERMITTED ON THE JUDGING FLOOR and/or IN VIDEO/SLIDE PRESENTATION:
1. Chemicals, liquids, drugs, molds, bacteria, batteries, flames, or sublimating substances.
2. Food, organisms, organism parts (living, dead, or preserved), animal parts, animal fluids, or animal excrement.
3. Sharp items such as syringes, needles, knives, scissors or pipettes.
4. Zero tolerance on any projects involving firearms, gunpowder, explosives, pathogens, any illegal or controlled substances, drugs, or drug paraphernalia.
5. No 3-dimensional objects can be attached to the board. They will be removed at the District Science Fair. This includes baggies, plastic models, boxes, etc.
6. Parents or observers on the floor or in video.
7. Cell phones, pagers, radios or recorders.
8. Food or drinks.
REQUIRED FOR ALL PROJECTS:
1. Backboard/slides/videos that contain photos, data, and report require the proper labeling, such as "Photos taken by student researcher and parent."
2. Abstract must be included; placed vertically on board, in a picture frame or as an individual slide if competing virtually.
3. PowerPoint presentations must be on a thumb drive for download to a computer. Students must have photos, data, report and bibliography on their PowerPoint presentation.
3. Second year or continuing projects must be labeled as such.
4. All projects must include a bibliography and recognize assistance.
5. All backboards should have student names on them. HOWEVER, NO SCHOOL NAME SHOULD APPEAR ON THE BACKBOARD, ON THE RESEARCH PAPER NOR ANY OF THE SLIDES/VIDEOS.
6. All previous awards should be removed from the project.

All students must complete the International Science and Engineering Forms attached at the bottom of this page.
If you qualify for Sun Country Regional Science Fair (6th – 12th grade), you will need a backboard, NO PowerPoint nor virtual projects are accepted at the Sun Country Regional Science Fair Competition.
TEAM PROJECTS
Only 2 students per team permitted to compete in District Science Fair
Both students must be present for judging and on video/slides
TEAM projects are not allowed to separate if eligible to enter Sun Country and State Science Fair – STUDENTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
Glossary
Adult Sponsor The adult sponsor may be a parent, teacher, university professor, or scientist in whose lab the student has worked. This person must have a strong science or engineering background and have worked closely on the student's project. The adult sponsor is responsible for working with the student to ensure all ISEF rules and regulations are followed and that the research is conducted safely in accordance with all local, state, and federal guidelines.
Qualified Scientist The qualified scientist is a person with an advanced degree in the area of the student researcher's project. This person must be familiar with the rules and regulations regarding that area of study.
Designated Supervisor The designated supervisor is a person who directly oversees the student's experimentation.
Why the Science Fair?
Science Fair plays an important role in the lives and careers of many young students. Through this process, they learn critical thinking skills that will enable them to thrive in any career field. The science fair is more than creating a science project.
It is a complete educational process through which students learn:
• To follow directions and complete the scientific process
• How to gain knowledge outside a classroom setting
• To work with mentors and peers
• To hone their presentation skills
• About competing honestly and fairly
